You’ve seen those old movies from the 50s and 60s where desks are lined up in rows and columns. A bunch of journalists, maybe. When have you ever seen an office like that? Today, the picture of a ‘traditional’ office is starting to look just as dated. People don’t want to work in boxes. We don’t want to work in static environments. More and more diversity of job functions are called upon in the common workplace.

It’s refreshing.
A refresher is exactly what Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and the Treasury Board Secretariat were looking for when we created their Activity Based Workplace (ABW) pilot project. ABW allows employees to have freedom in how they work, where they work, and who they work around.
We created a design floor in the building with both quiet and active areas, buffered by transition zones. They loved it. We know, because we were immediately engaged to design two more ABW in the same building.

And we loved working on it because . . . well . . . who gets to create freedom at work?
